Four years back, I was a freshie in Dubai then, I would often see these red double-decker buses almost everywhere in the city. I remember uploading a photo of one of these buses in Multiply (back when it still exists) and got raves from friends. From then on, I always wanted to try it but never had the chance to hop on one until the day we visited Muscat. Fast forward to present, I’m blessed to receive complimentary tickets to Dubai’s Big Bus! Honestly, at first, I thought it’s gonna be one boring tour as I’ve been almost everywhere in Dubai. Heck, I’ve been here for more than four years already! But the sound of Dubai Night Tour seems interesting, I can’t say no. And the fact that Dubai comes alive at night made me want to book the closest free weekend I have so I can do the tour at the soonest.
So, one Saturday evening, off we went to Burjuman Centre to board the red big bus. The trip includes a joy ride around Dubai (no stops, except for the show in Wafi, as this is a panoramic tour) and an English commentary. The tour started at 7:15 PM and lasted for almost two and a half hours.
From Burjuman, we traveled to Sheikh Zayed Road and had a glimpse of its beautiful skyscrapers.
Then we had a stop at the Dubai Mall to pick up more guests. I didn’t know that the bus really gets packed!
Then we drove to Jumeirah, passing by some residential villas, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Souq Madinat Jumeirah and the iconic Burj Al Arab.
From there, we went to the manmade island Palm Jumeirah and caught a glimpse of the Atlantis Hotel from afar. Going back to mainland, we had a fantastic view of what was dubbed as Dubai’s version of Las Vegas–the Dubai Marina.
We also passed by some free zones and headed back to Sheikh Zayed Road. Turned a right turn to the Zaabeel area and went past Wafi, where we’re supposed to have a stop for the lights and sounds show. Unfortunately, there was an exclusive event going on that time so we have to skip the show.
Then we continued towards Jadaf, passed by Deira City Centre and finally back to our point of origin, Burjuman Centre.
Generally, we liked the tour. But, if you’re planning to hop on the bus for photography purposes, I’d say it’s not a good idea. The bus moves fast and it’s really hard to get really nice photos. Otherwise, it’s really cool and a lovely experience. Plus, the tour is very informative. It’s really a shame that there were a lot of things I didn’t know about my city, despite living here for more than four years!
