My fiancé and I aren’t the active type. To regularly exercise has been in our new year’s resolution list for the past few years. Thing is, no matter how hard we try to make it a routine, we always end up failing because we are always armed with excuses, like lots of them. Silly me has always been telling my poor self that going to the mall is a form of exercise. Because like any typical girl, I’d go from store to store before finally buying what I really want. Hahaha – the things you make yourself believe to justify shopping and the lack of a proper exercise.
Seemed like we finally ran out of good reasons to not pursue working out because couple of days back, Dubai Sports World opened its doors to everyone trying to be fit. We dragged our lazy butts to Dubai World Trade Centre and have been back and forth since – well at least, every other day. Good start, right?
Dubai Sports World is a yearly initiative by Dubai World Trade Centre in association with Dubai Sports Council. Now on its fifth year, DSW will be open to everyone during Ramadan/the summer season. Great job, guys! Sheikh Saeed Hall is filled with play courts and equipment for the sporty and trying.
There are football, rugby and cricket pitches, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts that can be used for a fee.
Table tennis and badminton courts, on the other hand, are free of charge.
There’s a place for hipsters, too! At one corner of DSW is the indoor skate park that features ramps and stuff for the BMX riders and skateboarders.
Right across is an area dedicated to Against Graviti’s parkour obstacle course. How cool!!!
Kids are not forgotten as Wire World joins with DSW. Rope courses, bungee trampoline… ugh, I kind of wish I was small again so I can get myself into this.
Around these courts/special areas is a 400-m running track!
And where do I go? Here! At the free gym! Air conditioned, away from the sun and free – can’t think of any other reason why I shouldn’t give this a try. *wink*
I walked further away and found these booths!
Dubai Sports World will run until the 29th of August. Open from 8AM to 1AM. For more information, head over their website.
