#BreakfastDate: Tom&Serg

Few weekends back, on our way to a meeting in Abu Dhabi, we swung by this café called Tom&Serg in Al Quoz. Although not really along the way because it’s on the other side of Sheikh Zayed Road, we went anyway since we’ve been reading a lot of raves and good reviews about this place.

Located along 15A Street, Tom&Serg was quite hard to find because of its little signage on its façade. We only figured it out when we saw throngs of people coming in and going out of its doors. When we got in, we found ourselves face-to-face with a two-level, packed and buzzing dressed-up warehouse. The industrial interiors are definitely up-to-date with these days’ design trend. And the giant chalkboard wall that spans the height of the ground floor, next to the stairs, just nailed the Pinterest-worthy look.

A friendly staff came up to us and assisted us to a table for two. We left for the second floor because the ground was brimming with customers. We settled on the lone free table in the family area. It was nice with special shelves full of toys and children’s doodles – definitely kid-friendly.

Now, on to the food! The breakfast menu was limited but very straightforward. Well, the overall menu was short to begin with and I like how it didn’t give me a hard time running through it. And may I add that the menu is witty? The side comments are cute and funny – it’s actually like it’s talking to you. Anyway, shortly after we placed our orders, the server returned with our Cafe Latte and Hot Chocolate in hand. Wow, service was incredibly fast!

I had a serving of Eggs Florentine. I realized that we order the same kind of breakfast food everytime! Anyway, the poached eggs were divine! The muffin was layered with organic kale (lol, I feel like a healthy and responsible adult having kale on my food!) and smoked salmon, then the perfectly cooked poached eggs, smothered with a generous amount of Hollandaise sauce. My hot chocolate seemed to be made for this dish because they blend and balance each other so well. If you know me well, you’d know how much I love it when sweet and salty break even.

The fiancé had Two Eggs – Scrambled. More than just the eggs, this dish came with roasted mushroom, tomato cassoulet, veal bacon and toasted sourdough. We did not talk over breakfast because we just enjoyed our food. Mmm, well, we spoke a little, expressing our delight for the good food. We can’t help but agree with the oh-my-Gods of our neighbouring table. And because they can do simple dishes so great, we are very keen to return and taste the rest of what Tom&Serg has to offer. Although the dishes came with quite a price tag, it was so worth it because of the quality and quantity. We were full until late afternoon!

Service is great and I have nothing but good words for the staff – very helpful and friendly. And they all look cool and hip, too.

We recommend Tom&Serg for breakfast but not for a romantic date since the place gets crowded on weekends. It’s best for friends hanging out or families catching up. We can’t wait to return and bring the whole gang over! :)
