For the longest time, we’ve been coming back and forth to Dampa Seafood Grill but always end up going somewhere else because it’s always full to the brim. Dampa opened its doors early this year, satisfying Dubai residents’ hunger pangs for, what else, seafood!
Two weeks back, we decided to come over for lunch, a few minutes after they opened. Voila, we finally got ahold of a table! It pays to go early!
Dampa sports an industrial look with plain concrete wall finishes and exposed ceiling. The restaurant spans a second floor and an outdoor dining area with a mini cocktail bar and kitchen on the ground floor. Despite the ample amount of space, it remains crowded especially at night proving itself to be one of the most successful joints in town.
Dampa’s casualness runs from its hip interiors down to its unique eating style concept. On each table is a spread of clean white paper where they dump your food. Everyone’s encouraged to don plastic gloves to keep the mess out of thy hands.
Before our orders arrived, we were given a bowl of prawn crackers to share.
We picked Dampa’s famous Dump-a-Seafeast where a bowl of seafood (shrimps, mussels, clams and crabs) + corncob was dumped right before our eyes. You have a choice if you want your seafood grilled with chipotle butter sauce, boiled with cajun spice or steamed. We selected the Grilled option and boy it smelled sooo good. Gosh, it tasted even better! The Chipotle Butter Sauce was amazing making the whole ensemble so put-together. There is an overflow of rice that perfectly matched our super delish lunch. It was indeed a feast and reminded me of parties back home.
On a separate day, we returned to Dampa (scored a free table again, woohoo!) and tried their chef’s special. The fiancé and I shared a serving of Cajun Shrimp and Baked Mussel. Both are great but the baked mussel was made so perfect that its taste still linger in my mouth while typing these. Rice is unlimited too, even if you order ala carte.
The drinks served on a plastic fish bowl are so refreshing especially on a sweltering Dubai summer. I have tried the pineapple-based Bluer Than Blue and Incredible Hulk but my taste buds lean towards the yellow green mojito, cucumber and mint beverage.
We’d love to try mango bravo cake for dessert but it was unfortunately unavailable that time.
Service is consistently good throughout the days we’ve dined in. They are friendly and helpful and most of all, they serve quick enough before you turn to a hungry monster. :) Price is pretty reasonable for good and tasty food. Two thumbs up for Dampa! We highly recommend it to everybody.
