The last three weeks have been very busy for our little household of 2. We transferred to our new crib and the never-ending pack, unpack, organize was in full loop. But that didn’t make us forget our monthly breakfast date. We purposely set it on the last weekend of the month coz we are sort of expecting that by then, almost, if not all, our mess was put into order. Anyway…
For this month’s breakfast date, we didn’t bother driving far. Instead we unearthed a hidden gem tucked in the heart of old Dubai. As its name implies, Creekside is located on the bank of Dubai Creek. Situated on the Bur Dubai side, your best landmark to find this little café is the Hindu temple (that’s sort of hidden as well). There are no signages leading to it but the directions in Google Maps are pretty accurate.
In the spirit of the last remaining days of Dubai winter, we chose to dine alfresco, affording us 180 degree views of the creek’s morning activities. Modernized regional music with a touch of jazz airs throughout the tiny space giving off a cool, artsy and relaxing vibe.
Creekside has a couple of dishes available for breakfast. Oops, lemme rephrase that. Creekside offers breakfast dishes all-day!
Since we are in the old side of Dubai, we opted to get our hands on their local dishes that promise an interesting twist. Their version of French Toast is to die for! A thick slab of toast topped with berries, date jam, crushed pistachios and Arabic coffee custard. It’s then beautifully plated with berries and pomegranate syrup on the side. Crunchy, soft, sweet, sour and bitter – all in one plate. THE BEST FRENCH TOAST we’ve had to date!
We also tried Posh Beith Temat which is pretty much a shakshouka. Poached eggs drowned in richly flavored saffron tomato sauce and chami yogurt. It comes with a warm pita bread to dip. Heaven!
My Nutella hot chocolate is a winner as well! And the husband’s Latte has some flowery taste that he liked. Although when we asked the server what was added to it, he said it was just normal Arabic coffee and milk. Whatever it was, it’s pretty awesome.
The husband and I both have signs of approval that we wholeheartedly recommend Creekside, for breakfast, to everyone. It’s worth walking in circles and finding this hidden gem. I suggest you add this to your itinerary the next time you will be visiting the old and cultural side of Dubai.
