Last week, we were invited to grace the unveiling of Jumeira Rotana’s new all day dining restaurant, Olive Oil. We didn’t know that there’s a Rotana property in the area because the location is off the major thoroughfare, 2nd December Street. The combination of Satwa traffic and rush hour was a daunting experience but as soon as we got inside Jumeira Rotana, we felt relieved. It’s the perfect refuge to while away from the bustling Satwa.
Anyway, back to Olive Oil. The restaurant is located on the ground floor of the hotel, very easy to find. Upon entering, we were given refreshing welcome drinks and appetizers – exactly what we needed at that moment!
Before we even made it to our table, we spotted a display of fresh seafood waiting to be picked and cooked to our liking. Mmm… so far so good.
The buffet spread is situated on the end side of the room – a mouthwatering presentation of delectable dishes! I found the variety of food surprising. There are salads and appetizers, of course, but the mains range from seafood courses, to steaks, Indian fare and an impressive sushi selection. The desserts were not to be missed as well as these were beautifully arranged in a separate long table!
We tried the seafood platter – grilled shrimps, squid and lobster in lemon and butter sauce. It was good though the squid was quite rubbery.
We tried almost every dish and particularly loved everything in the Japanese corner. The variety of sushi was interesting. There were certain flavor and playfulness in the combination.
We had a hearty dinner at Olive Oil. Should you find yourself in the hood, it’s a good escape to the busy Satwa area.
